ArtSpace Vision Fund 2018-19 – Connect to Achieve

ArtSpace has striven to stay current with the advances in educational technology and over the past 5 years we have obtained numerous laptops and tablets and have achieved a 1:1 Chromebook initiative for our 7th and 8th graders.

Increasing students’ access to this hardware is very exciting for the ArtSpace community but it does come with its own set of problems that have been compounded by some other issues. All of this new technology, coupled with new digital assessment requirements from the state has created a problem for our current wireless infrastructure.

At this point, most if not all education assessment systems have gone digital requiring wireless bandwidths in schools to be very robust or users find themselves booted off the system in the middle of a task. At the beginning of the school year, this occurred to the detriment of baseline testing sessions across all grade levels. It was heartbreakingly difficult for our students to be bumped off the system during testing multiple times, most definitely affecting their success on these assessments.

In the four years since we upgraded our connectivity in the building, we have brought in a plethora of new devices for our students, coupled with the new assessment requirements we know we must upgrade our wireless infrastructure on campus.
