PACE Board Members serve three years, with a possible extension up to two additional years. Executive Officer terms are one year in length, with elections held in June. Meetings are the third Tuesday of every month at 6:00 PM and are open to the public.
Becky has been involved with ACS (on the Board, the Advisory Board, and through committee work) since 2004. Ms. Herdt holds a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. from Montreat College. She has worked for Braiform, a multi-national Australian-owned company, for 15 years and is the current Program Manager for the Americas. In addition, she is the Board President for F.A.C.E., Inc. (Foundation for the Arts at the Core of Education, Inc.). She has served as a board member for the University of Arkansas-Supply Chain Research Center for three years and has been a member of the National Association of Female Executives for 11 years. Ms. Herdt enjoys photography, music, decorating, and spending time in nature.
Mark is an Associate Professor of Education at UNC-Asheville, where he coordinates the Art Education Licensure Program. He holds a Ph.D. in Art Education from Purdue University, a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh, a Masters Degree in Counseling and a Bachelor of Education Degree in Art Education from Millersville University. In his 30-year career as an educator he has been a K-12 art teacher, elementary math and reading teacher, middle school classroom teacher in all subjects, and is additionally licensed as a school counselor. He is active in the North Carolina Art Education Association (awarded the 2010-2011 NC Art Educator of the Year), has served in numerous roles for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, is an active docent at the Asheville Art Museum, and was involved in the founding of ArtSpace. Mark enjoys museums, antique and thrift shops, collecting turn-of-the-century arts textbooks, bookarts, and the outdoors.
Michelle joined the Board in December 2011. She worked with the Van Winkle Law Firm as administrative assistant to Larry McDevitt for 17 years. Michelle has students at ArtSpace in 3rd and 6th grades, and has been an active parent volunteer since 2006. Michelle loves God, her family, to serve and educate children, to cook, travel, and encourages others to “leave everything better than you find it.”
Dan joined the Board in 2011. He holds a B.S. in Accounting/Finance from Mars Hill College and is a licensed CPA in both North and South Carolina. With over 12 years in the field, he is currently a manager with Gould Killian CPA Groups, PA. His previous experience includes Elliott Davis, LLC, Ernst & Young, LLP, and Pioneer Natural Resources, Inc. Mr. Mullinix enjoys music, outdoors, and time with friends and family.
Augusta Anne joined the Board in December 2012. She hold a B.A. in American Studies and Gender Studies from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, and a M.Div, from Virginia Theological Seminary in Theology/Religious Studies. Augusta Anne is a priest in the Episcopal Church, and an ArtSpace parent.
Lori has worked in education for over 22 years. She began working at ArtSpace in 2003 as an Arts Integration Specialist, and has been the Executive Director since 2007. Lori holds a B.S. in Communications and an M.S. in Arts Education from Florida State University. Lori is a National Board Certified Teacher in Middle Childhood Education, and she holds NC teaching licenses in Art Education and Elementary Education. She has taught art to students ranging from pre-school through adult, and has also been an Elementary Teacher and an Academically Gifted Teacher.
Lori has been a Teaching Fellow with the NC A+ Schools Program since 1999, and in this role has traveled throughout the country presenting and instructing other educators on best practices in arts integrated learning. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoys dance, art history, gardening, and soccer.
Steve holds a B.S. in Recreational Resources Administration from NC State University, an M.A. in Communication Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and an M.L.S. from Appalachian State University. Hecompleted his teaching certification at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. With over 20 years of experience, he holds North Carolina professional licensure in K-6 General Education, K-12 Computer Science, and Media Library Science. In addition, Mr. Lipe has served the A+ Schools Program as an Apprentice Fellow. His personal interests include reading, traveling, camping, and history. His wife, Roberta, was a co-founder of ArtSpace.
