Lori Cozzi (Executive Director) was born in Florida, where she got her B.A. in Communications and M.S. in Arts Education. She taught art in both middle and elementary schools for eight years, before deciding to gain experience as a more traditional classroom teacher in Polk and Buncombe counties. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in Middle Childhood Education.

Lori joined ArtSpace in 2004, as part of the Arts Integration Team, later heading the program. Currently, she is an adjunct professor for Mars Hill College and an A+ Fellow for the North Carolina A+ Program, a nation-wide whole school reform model whose central vision is to create enhanced learning opportunities for all students by using arts-integrated instruction. She became the Executive Director of ArtSpace in June 2007.

She lives in Black Mountain with her husband, Shane, daughter, Ayla, and son, Elias, who attends ArtSpace.

Sarah Christy (Business Director) started her career as a journalist covering local, federal and international beats. Sarah moved into business working in the areas of management, IT, marketing and sales in the US, Europe and Asia/Pacific regions. In 2003 she left the corporate world and lived for a year on a small Indonesian island, eventually raising funds and building a secondary school that was completed in 2005. This year the school was accredited by the Indonesian government, which now provides textbooks and teacher development support.

Sarah has a M.S. in Journalism from Columbia University and WNC has been a part of her life for more than 25 years primarily due to the NC Outward Bound School. She serves as a Guardian ad Litem representing children in the court system, provides volunteer support to several other community organizations and has recently started an import business, Gili Air Imports, from which a percentage of the profits will support non-profit organizations. She enjoys traveling, hiking, writing and English riding.  She lives in Asheville with her dog, Zydeco Blue.

Cande Honeycutt (Assistant Director) joined ArtSpace as Assistant Director in August of 2008. She holds master’s degrees in Curriculum Development and Comprehensive Education in Secondary English.

She previously worked in the Hickory Public School system where she implemented several service learning projects, worked with the district on effective assessment of teachers as well as developed a methodology for teaching the high school writing curriculum. She has a strong background in assessment, curriculum development, service-learning and Expeditionary Learning.

Cande enjoys a number of hobbies including gardening. She lives in Asheville with her daughter, Isabelle.
