ArtSpace Charter School has partnered with the North Carolina Mountain Acoustic Music Association to provide students with a sense of rich cultural heritage and musical awareness. NCMAMA has established the Roots Music in Schools program. From their website: NCMAMA’s Roots Music in Schools will work with, and make available to educators, new and innovative programs that will provide a greater working knowledge of the music & dance of our region, that can be integrated into their school's curriculum. These programs will provide to the students the knowledge and history of the acoustic roots music, dance, & instruments of the region, and offer them the opportunity to become involved with this native art form, which is so much a part of the rich heritage of Western NC. Artists from NCMAMA will work directly in the classroom with ArtSpace students in dance and music to further strengthen ArtSpace's vision of being a nationally known school integrating the arts into standard curriculum. |
