P.U.L.S.E (Promoting Understanding, Love, Safety and Empathy) encompasses our school-wide bully prevention and character development programming. PULSE is coordinated by a committee consisting of teachers, administrators and parents and is chaired by our School Counselor and also includes a student focus group, comprised of 7th and 8th grade students. ArtSpace implements the Olweus Bully Prevention Program. Olweus is an internationally recognized research-based program. Program components include individual, classroom, school, community and family. The program is designed for all students, is preventive and responsive, and is focused on changing norms.
We believe that effective bully prevention requires a team approach and systematic efforts over time. Our ultimate goal is to strengthen our community and maintain an environment where everyone feels comfortable, safe and supported. Examples of PULSE sponsored activities include participation in The Compassion Games, Random Acts of Kindness Week, Pink Shirt Day, Stand Against Racism, Day of Caring and our own middle school art competition and Be Kind, Rewind Film Festival.
