The Star Ceremony

The Star Ceremony is as old as ArtSpace itself. It began on a basketball court as the first group of 90 students from kindergarten to 5th grade gathered in a circle at the end of the year. Each grade of students gave a paper star they had created to the students rising into their grade. The stars were symbols to celebrate their year together and to offer encouragement and joy for the upcoming year. Kindergarten students created stars for rising 6th graders, congratulating them for their success.

The Star Ceremony continues as the school grows, with kindergartners now giving their stars to rising 9th graders who are leaving the ArtSpace community for high school. This tradition continues each year, as we celebrate who we are, encourage all students to do their best in the coming year, and wish our graduating 8th graders all the success in the world.
