Once again another ArtSpace tradition continued this year despite the obstacles of students learning remotely for a significant amount of the year. For the 18th year in a row third graders took part in The Dinner Party project. This project inspired by Judy Chicago’s collaborative piece of the same name is a huge undertaking in a regular year whenever one is learning on campus together. As has become the custom this year teachers and students pivoted, worked hard and completed a digital presentation that demonstrates the learning goals of the unit in an authentic and creative digital way.
For this project students chose an innovative or barrier breaking individual from history to research. After research was completed students drew a portrait, created a digital place setting, and finally wrote and performed a biographic monologue as the person they studied. The work was then compiled in an interactive digital presentation that can be viewed here. Take a moment to revel in the hard work of ArtSpace’s innovative third graders.
