Sixth Grade

Sixth graders engage in a variety of learning activities and projects. Activities include annual Shakespeare and folk tale performances, Renaissance and Silk Road Bazaar role plays, a planetary research project, plate tectonics-building and experiments with igneous rocks.  Students also attend annual art/architecture field trips, as well as places like Diana Wortham Theatre and the Warren Wilson College challenge course. In sixth grade, we focus on community building efforts. We “grow” our community through class meetings, team-building activities, group projects and experiential field trips.

About Ms. Kinsey

Kinsey graduated from Union University in Jackson, TN with a BA in Biblical Languages and a minor in Chemistry before moving to the Asheville/WNC area with her husband. She earned a BA in Classical Languages from UNC Asheville and completed the teacher’s licensure program while there. She enjoyed teaching 6th and 7th-grade math, science, and Latin before moving to ArtSpace to teach 6th-grade math and science. Kinsey has been a lover of the arts since childhood, acting in school theater productions, singing in choirs and ensembles, and taking part in dance classes and groups. She and her husband have enjoyed living in the mountains of WNC, hiking, and camping with their three dogs, and enjoying food and fun in Asheville with friends. She is excited to be part of the amazing team at ArtSpace.

About Ms. Brandie

Brandie Dallara has over fifteen years of teaching experience, working with a diverse range of grade levels and topics; from putting on her best imaginative hats to engage pre-k students and help them shake away the first-year school scaries at Lucy Daniels Social Emotional Behavioral School in Cary, to facilitating creative writing for 8th grade middle schoolers wanting to express themselves as they approach their high school years at Franklin School of Innovation in Asheville. When Brandie’s not teaching, she enjoys riding with the windows down on the Blue Ridge Parkway with her husband Adrian, listening to their favorite tunes, and discovering new spots around town. She values time with her daughter Brionna, hearing about her writings as a local journalist, and spoiling her grand-cat Nico.
